There is currently a national shortage of medications to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due to manufacturing problems and increased global demand.

Our service provides private adhd medication titration ADHD adjustment instead of waiting for NHS funding via Right to Choose. Our assessments cost include the cost of one prescription.

Titration

A highly experienced consultant psychiatrist will conduct a thorough evaluation of your ADHD. This includes a complete medical history and an evaluation using the common ADHD questionnaires and rating scales.

After your examination After your assessment, you will be informed whether medication is appropriate for your particular situation. This will be discussed during your follow-up appointment (which could be in person, by video link, or over the phone). Your clinician will discuss the various options for medications available. If you decide to start taking medication, we can help you to titrate your dose to ensure the best balance of benefits and side effects for you.

This process can take several weeks. It involves adjusting your child's medication gradually until the appropriate balance is achieved. It is not unusual to have to titrate three or four medications before determining the most effective one for your child's ADHD symptoms. Parents must participate in this titration adhd meds process and keep an eye on their child's behavior to let the doctor know whether the medication is working or causing side effects.

If you do not decide to return to NHS care and have decided to return to NHS care, your medication will be given as an individual prescription that you'll need to pay for at the pharmacy (this is not included in the consultation fee). You'll need to attend six-monthly appointments to check your medications. This includes blood pressure and pulse measurements. Annual reviews are also required.

Follow-up appointments

After the assessment is completed, you'll be able to book appointment with the psychiatrist, as appropriate. Typically, the appointment will take place via a zoom video call but in certain circumstances it is possible to schedule an audio-only consultation (again at an extra cost).

We will then go over treatment options and choose an individualised, bespoke ADHD medication adjustment. This will include a review of your medication dosage and a discussion of any possible adverse effects you may be experiencing. The titration sessions cost PS150 for face-to-face sessions and PS60 by video or phone consultation. The pharmacy will be charged for any cost of medication.

The psychiatrist will ask you questions regarding your family history as well as the effects of your ADHD symptoms on your life, and any mental health issues you might be experiencing. If you are unsure of what your preference is it is recommended that you speak to your GP prior to booking your private assessment as some providers have different policies about whether they require an GP referral letter or not. We also advise to check if your GP accepts a "Shared Care Agreement which means that after you have been discharged from the clinic, you will be returned to them for the medication prescription.

Medication

Medication is a key aspect of the treatment process for many people who are seeking an official ADHD diagnosis. The process of getting an appointment with an NHS psychiatrist can be a hassle and long-winded. NHS waiting lists can be extremely long and GPs might be reluctant to refer their patients to specialist services.

Requesting your GP to refer you to Right to Choose is one way to avoid this (see psychiatry UK and ADHD 360). You can choose a service that provides a private assessment service and titration. This will help you to save time and also be more convenient, especially when you are on a tight work schedule.

Once you've been recommended, your physician will evaluate your condition to determine if you need medication adjustment.
