3 Wheeler Buggies

Seating

The seating capacity of 3 wheelers is quite impressive and there are many different options to choose from. For babies, there is the option to use the included carrycot plus (which MFM reviewer Alice says is a comfortable and cozy lie-flat bed that can be used on and off the buggy) In addition, older babies and toddlers can use the parent or world-facing seat that is spacious and cushioned and has adjustable ventilation. It's important to note that these seats don't recline fully however, they can be adjusted to the lowest position which should still give your child plenty of headroom and room to move around.

A sling seat made of cloth is also available, which has the advantage of being positioned snugly inside the frame, rather than sitting on top as the modular seat. This delivers a much lower centre of gravity and a perfect weight distribution. This makes it easier to push, especially on bumpy terrain or over curbs. MFM reviewer Kath liked the way this type of seat dealt with challenges.

Alongside a huge shopping basket, this type of buggy generally has quite useful features, such as an extended 50+ UV hood, an easy to use brake pedal and some bright, game-changing lights that come up from the handlebars and can be placed directly in front of the occupants to ensure their safety when traversing difficult terrain.

Tyres

Air filled tyres are designed to provide your child with a more comfortable ride by cushioning bumps and uneven surfaces. These are found on pushchairs like the Phil & Ted’s Sport, which MFM reviewer Kath said provided "an exceptional ride for her toddler". She also said that the grippy tires of the Phil & Ted's Sport made it easy for her to navigate the kerbs and other obstacles.

These tyres are sometimes difficult to maintain and need to have their air pressure topped up regularly. These tyres are more susceptible to punctures, and it is recommended to always carry an repair kit and spare inner tube when you're out and about.

PU tyres can be used on pushchairs since they are less expensive than tyres filled with air, but they are just as robust. PU tyres are easily identified by their matte finish and soft feel. They also slide easily on smooth and tightly woven surfaces.

You can usually discern the distinction between air-filled and PU tire by running your fingers over each one. If it feels firm, then it's made of rubber, when it slides, it's a PU. You can also verify that your buggy is fitted with PU tyres by sliding the tyres on an even, clean surface - they'll be able to roll easily and should fit snugly in their wheel hubs.
