Volvo Key Fob Troubleshooting

Volvo drivers are enthralled by the remote control features of their key fob. With a smartphone app they can lock and unlock the car, start the engine, and even locate it.

First, put the key fob on a clean work surface with the logo side facing upward. Locate the button that releases it, insert an object between the fob and the cover, and pull up carefully.

Locking the Doors

Using a fingernail, carefully remove the cover on the back of the key fob. A button should be placed underneath the cover on an angle that is near the edge of the body. Slide it down and to the right. The cover will then come open and slide off leaving the manual key blade inside! If you are unable to locate the button, look around the now-revealed manual key access to find an undiscovered lever or slot.

Close the Windows

Turning off the Alarm

Modern key fobs provide a lot of convenience over a traditional mechanical car key. They aren't always working perfectly, and the batteries can fail. If you're in a hurry, or don't want to visit a store to have your key fob reset, you can attempt to get it to work at home.

Lay out your key fobs as well as batteries and additional keys on a clean surface.
